‘Stand Firm’ is the constant refrain of 1 Corinthians. The church Paul had planted and then poured his heart into had become unstable and unsure of its footing. False teachers had hacked away at their foundations, an idolatrous culture was lobbing lies at them, and their fellowship was fracturing. As a Father passionately pleading with his children to recover their gospel footing Paul warns, rebukes, corrects, and urges them to stand firm. Our culture is just as confused as the Corinthian culture was and we need to be equipped to stand firm and convinced the gospel is worth the work.
