The Ruler who Rescues for Relationship

We will be spending our Sunday evenings between September and November looking at the second half (chapters 19-40) of Exodus.

This part of the book is no less dramatic than the first featuring the giving of the 10 commandments, the construction of God’s dwelling place (The Tabernacle), the Golden Calf, God revealing his glory to Moses, and God being visibly present with his people in cloud and fire.

In the first half of the book we saw God rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Now we see in glorious technicolour the reason for that rescue – God rescued his people so that they might enjoy intimate relationship with Himself.  I pray that we will once again see how Israel’s rescue for relationship with God foreshadows the greater salvation we have received through the Lord Jesus Christ, and how we are to relate to God now as rescued followers of Jesus.

Exodus 19:3-6  Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’  These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.”
