When you become a Christian you want to follow Jesus. And if there is a word that is used in the Bible more than any other to describe what a real Christian is, it’s the word DISCIPLE. A disciple is a learner, a follower of Jesus and someone who wants to be more like Jesus, their master each day. There are different ways in which you can be helped to grow as a disciple.

The BIBLE is the place to learn what it means to be a disciple. A compass is used to find the right direction to get you to where you want to go. When we are trying to find our way through the journey of life, God has given us a spiritual compass to guide our path. That guide is the Bible. The truth that we find in the Bible never changes. It will always point us in the same direction. It will always point us to Jesus who we want to follow. And there are many opportunities in church life to hear the Bible taught and explained as well as your own private study.

Jesus was a man of prayer and the Bible calls us to PRAY expectantly and regularly. And the Bible never encourages us to be isolated Christians. Quite the opposite. He wants us to be in community with other like minded believers so the LOCAL CHURCH is the place to find encouragement and support along the journey.

From time to time we will run a ‘Discipleship Explored’ Course for those who want to know more about being a disciple. You can find out more here or send us an email if you would like details of the next course.

Here at Woodgreen we want to help disciples become disciple-makers as we take up the challenge Jesus left with his own disciples before he returned to heaven, He told them

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28: 18-20
